The Finance Committee of the Auckland City Council has decided to send all correspondence in regard to allegations of waste brought by Mr. W. H. Murray (a member of the council) to the Government and to urge that a commission of inquiry be set up soon.—Press Assn. The dispute between the New. Zealand Federated Sawmills, Timber Yards and Coal Yards Union and the employers, which came before the Conciliation Council in Christchurch was adjourned. The union seeks a Dominion award, and the employers object, preferring loca] awards. The union was represented by six assessors, but only Mr. W. Cecil Prime, secretary of the Christchurch Employersy’ Association, appeared for the" employers. Eventually, to constitute the Conciliation Council properly. Mr. Prime was appointed assessor with six votes. It was agreed, on the casting vote of the chairman, that the council stand adjourned pending the decision of the Court on the issue of a Dominion award versus local awards.
