BUTCHERS’ PICNIC

ON WAIMARAMA STRAND. The Hastings butchers held their annual picnic yesterday at Waitnarama, when a happy crowd of over 200 men, women and children spent a glorious time in bathing, in playing games, and in athletic competitions. The weather was perfect, the heat of the sun being tempered by the cooling ocean breezes. At rhe close of the day the holiday-makers returned home, tired but content in their enjoyment and with renewed vigour to resume their ordinary duties. Following are the results of the sports programme:— Boys’ race....lvor Curtis 1 Girls’ race.—Audrey Cook 1. Single ladies’ race. —Miss Dorward Married ladies’ race.—Mrs Ryan 1. Butchers’ Handicap.—J.
