MATCHES FOR HAWKE’S BAY. WELLINGTON TEAM COMING AT EASTER. Wellington, Feb. 6. The Australian cricket team will arrive in Wellington on February 14, and proceed the same night to Nelson and play a match there, returning to Wellington to play on February 17, 18 and 20. The visitors are to be extended a civic welcome. The question of sending a junior team to Hawke’s Bay was referred to the junior committee. At Easter time H. McGirr is taking a senior team to play at Napier and Hastings.

SHEFFIELD SHIELD. CAUTIOUS PLAY. Brisbane, Feb. 6. Queensland lost nine for 384— O’Connor 54, Oxenham 65, and Rowe 134. Heavy rain overnight made the outfield heavy and dead, but had not affected the wicket, which was covered. Shortly after play commenced a heavy shower caused a cessation and the wicket was covered. Several heavy showers in the afternoon caused further delay. The Queensland batsmen played carefully, O’Connor and Oxenham, by means of cautious play, slowly increasing the score. Rowe, after a slow beginning, hit out and quickly increased the total, until a failing light caused the cessation of play for the day. A BIG SCORE. Ashburton, Feb. 6. A record for Ashburton County cricket was put up in a senior match by the Tinwald team playing Ashburton A. For seven wickets they scored 603, Drennan 295 not out, Stephens 84 not out, McNicol 69, and extras 57. CANTERBURY PRO. Christchurch, Feb. 6. J. Newman has been re-engaged as professional cricket coach for Canterbury for next season. ORMOND CUP GAMES. Matches in the 'second round of the Ormond Cup were played at Waipukurau on Saturday, in both of the games each side having their first innings. For Waipukurau High School, against Eparaima, L. McCarthy (38) and Cameron (16) alone reached double figures, the innings closing for 89. Eparaima’s best bowler was A. S. Wilder, with 6 wickets for 32. Eparaima knocked up 64, Wilder scor ing 16 and Johnstone 17, the rest being very small scorers. High School’s best bowlers were S. McCarthy 3 for 2; O'Dowd 3 for 8; Walsh 2 for 14 and Southall 2 for 25. The Old Boys v. Otane match saw bigger scoring, Old Boys notching 137 and Otane 92. Old Boys’ opening batsmen, Hawland (48), Guy (36), Smales (26), and McCarthy (15) made good scores. Oram (8 for 52) and Page (3 for 33) doing best with the ball. Die chief run-getters for Otane were Page (15), Donovan (14). Stock (16), Oram (30 not out), and Gilbertson (10). Guv took 2 wickets for 24. Gair 2 for 25 and Howland 3 for 16.
