Christchurch, Feb. 6. For his win in the Snotswood Handicap at Cheviot on Saturoav, Great Triumph has been penalised 36 yards in the Juvenile Handicap at Addington mi Saturday next:— Other revisc-1 handicaps are:— Linwood Handicap: Dr. Dillon 24 yards, not 12. Cashmere Handicap: Audobell 12 yards, not 24. RICCARTON GALLOPS. MONEY ORDER GOES FAST. The following notes on Riccarton gallops on Saturday, taken trom the Christchurch “Sun,” may bo of interest. in view ot the Dunedin Cup meeting:— x M • Easily the best gallop over six furlongs at Riccarton this (Saturday) morning was credited to the Paper Money gelding, Money Order, who ran the distance in the outstanding time of Iniin 15 3-ssec. As lie was eased slightly over the concluding hundred yards, il will be seen that he could have broken Iniin losec had he been ridden out. Showing gnat brilliance in the early stages ot his six-furlong trial, Money Order ran his first furlong in 12 l-ssec, two furlongs in 25sec, three in 37sec, and the half-mile in 49sec, and though he slowed up over the last bit he ran the two furlongs in 26 3-ssec. * • ♦ The most striking gallop over a longer distance was Arikiwai’s nine furlongs in Iniin 57 4-ssec. Associated with Assurance, the Paladin three-year-old always held his companion with ease, but three furlongs IrQin home he wont right away from Assurance, and was lour hngths to the good passing the post. Another middle-distance gallop that was a good I rial were the efforts of the two Dunedin Cup candidates, Countersign and Satrap, who registered Imiii 58sec for their nine suriongs a trifle slower than Ariki-

wai’s time. Both horses travelled comfortably throughout, and though Satrap held a slight advantage at the end, Countersign was going equally as well as her younger rival. Satrap has made great improvement since his return from Ellerslie, and it looks as if another good gallop will bring him right back to his best. It was not so much Satrap's finishing ahead of Countersign this morning that appealed to trackwatchers, as the fact that he galloped in quite his best, style all the way, suggesting that he is making a quick return to form. Partnered by his stable-mate Zarogoza, Limerick was not at all extended to record Imin 17sec lor six furlongs. He began smartly, and passing the six-furlongs post he was swinging along in his usual free style. He was never going at top at any part of his gallop this morning, anj pushed out he could have done considerably better. Hie first furlong was left behind in 13sec, two furlongs in 25sec, three in 37 3-ssec, the half-mile in 50sec, and the full journey in Iniin 17sec, with Limerick travelling comfortably iu front at the end. The Limond colt Agrion, who galloped earlier in the morning, when the track was on the heavy side, easily defeated his stable - mate, Lucinda, over five furlongs, which were left behind in Imin 4 3-ssec. Agrion was always doing his work comfortably, and he was at least eight lengths to the good when the line was reached. , * * The failure of Thorndale, who has been solidly supported this week for the Dunedin Cup, to hold off Nincompoop in a gallop over seven furlongs would be disconcerting to his admirers. The time for the journey, Imin 32 l-ssec, was by no means smart, and on top of his recent promising form it is hard to account for Thorndale's defeat this morning. As he was receiving a good deal of weight from the Absurd gelding, and as the latter was travelling very easily at the end, it seems only reasonable to suppose that Thorndale has temporarily gone off, but a good gallop on bis part at Wingatui, before Thursday next, would be reassuring to his Cup admirers. Nincompoop’s display this morning, however, was a very encouraging one, and if he manages to see out the distance in next week's big handicap. he will take a lot of beating. Front Rank, who probably will be ridden by C. Eastwood in the Dunedin Cup, strode along very freely over six furlongs, the time for that journey being Imin 20sec. One of the most impressive gallops seen at headquarters for some time was the periormance of Silver Coot, who ran home from the six furlongs post in the really good time 01 Imin Ibsec. He was sent out to gallop by himself, but Skyquest and Quarterdeck hopped off about five lengths in front of the Paper Money tliree-year-old, and thus set a sound pace for him. However, with a brilliant burst of speed Silver Coot soon overtook the leading pair, and entering the straight he was on terms with Skyquest, who was slightly ahead ot Quarterdeck. At this stage it was expected that Silver Coot would stop, but to the surprise of trackwatchers, he shot right away from his companions over the last furlong, and was travelling apparently easily ahead of Skyquest when the post was reached, with Quarterdeck beaten off. a * * The Paladin colt, Scoff, displayed all his brilliance while traversing five furlongs in the excellent time of 1 min 2 2-ssec, an though he will soon leave G. Murray Aynsley’s stable, he should do good service for his new owner. The Autumnus colt. Full Feather, who will leave on Monday next to compete in the Champagne Stakes at Wingatui, slipped over half-a-mile without the slightest effort, and as he seems to have made great headway since he raced at Trenthiim, indications point to his running a great race in the two-year-old classic race. Amourette held Fair Exchange safely over five furlongs, run in 1 min 3 1-fisec. Over a furlong farther Rapier strode along in easy stylo to record Imin 27 2-ssec. First Sight and Stormy were not required to do their best in a working galloj) over a mile, which distance was travelled in Iniin IS) 1-5 sec, but both horses hit out with plenty of freedom. First Sight will be a runner in the President’s Handicap on the opening day of the Wingatui meeting. Starflight and Footfall ran home from the seven furlongs post in Imin 32 2-osee. Eulalic registed Imin 18 4-ssec lor six furlongs. Goblin Market easily accounted for Rigmarole in a spin over six furlongs, run in Imin 2(Jsec. Over the same distance Moorland got through steady work. Shalimar was galloping comfortably at the end of six furlongs run in 1 min 19sec. Over a corresponding distance Amor and Lnniinant registered the same time. Rotor, who will leave lor Wingatui on Monday, sprinted in pleasing style over half a mile in 49 4-ssec. Over six furlongs on the course proper Chide and Starsbootcr recorded Imin ISscc.
