The British Official Wireless to-day reports that it was announced from Buckingham Palace this afternoon that as Her Majesty the Queen has lately been suffering from a cold, it is considered inadvisable that she should attend the State opening of Parliament to-morrow. On enquiry at the Napier Hospital this afternoon it was ascertained that Mr. Rov Gallien continues to make satisfactory progress. Mr J. A. Miller was re-elected chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board at a meeting held this morning. Mr. A. Murley left Hastings this morning on a short business visit to Wellington Mrs H Burge, of Twyford, is spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs Wilson, at Tokomaru. Mrs H. Hunt, of Raupare. who underwent an operation at the Napier Hospital recently, has returned home. The Hon. 0 J. Hawken, Min' .m of Agriculture, is in the South Island He spent last week-end at Hanmer Springs.

The Hon. K. S. Williams. Minister of Public Works, spent the week-end at Waikaremoana and came on to Napier yesterday.

The Hon J. A Young. Minister of Health, returned to Wellington from Hamilton yesterday, Mrs Nellie Ferner and Miss M Jackson presided as Magistrates over the sitting of the Children’s Court at Auckland on Saturday for the first time. Mr. J. L Dunn, of Hastings, left this morning on a motor tour of the North Island, with a party consisting of Misses Irwin (3), Miss Huddleston and Miss Hume. The President of the Irish Free State. Mr. Cosgrave. left New York by the Olympic early on Saturday morning on his return to Ireland, after his brief visit to the United States and Canada. Nurses Anne and P. Kelly, who are in training at the Wanganui Hospital, left for the West Coask yesterday alter a visit to their parents, Mr and Mrs R. Kelly, Ellison road. Hastings. At a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Golf Association last night, Major Conway resigned Ms membership of the council owing to hi 3 transfer to Taranaki. Mr. M J. Crombie was elected a member of the council in his place. Lady Chamberlain, wife of the British Foreign Secretary, who has been suffering with neuritis, has been ordered a sea voyage, and will leave London for South America on February 16. Mr. T. M. Wilford. M.P. for Hutt, and Mrs Wilford will leave Wellington on Friday next for Shanghai to see their son. Thence thev will go. bv way of Canada, to London. They will be back in time for the next session of Parliament. Mr. A. W. Jackson, who has held the position of stationmaster at Waipawa for some time, has received notice of transfer, on promotion, to the Wanganui district traffic manager’s office. Mr. Jackson has been a most popular official and taken an active interest in local affairs. At the monthly meeting of the Havelock North Fire Brigade held last night occasion was taken to wish Fireman R. Epplett the bes.t of good luck on the occasion of his recent marriage. The superindent, in a brief speech, expressed the brigade’s good feeling towards Fireman Epplett. who, he said, had always had the best interests of the brigade at heart and proved himself a good fellow. The health of Mr and Mr s Epplett was heartily drunk, and the rest of the evening w’as spent in music. A well-known and highly esteemed pioneer resident of Wellington, Mrs George Tattle, passed away at th# residence of her eldest son. Mr. G. A, Tattle, of Christchurch, on Sunday evening. Mrs Tattle landed in New Zealand by the sailing vessel Ida Zeigler in 1864. She took part in a quiet way m many activities in Wei lington for the well-being of the com munity. Mrs Tattle was one of th* earliest presidents of the W.C.T.U.. and also one of the original member.* of the executive of the Mother*' Union inaugurated by Ladv Glasgow Mrs Tattle was predeceased by her husband. Mr. George Tattle, about 17 years ago. The surviving member* of her family are: Mr G. A. Tattle (Christchurch). Mr. W T. Tattle (Perth). Mrs Janies Searle. Mrs C B Norwood. Mr. L W. Tattle, and Mr, Ilethell (all of Wellington). Mr, F. .1 Tattle (Norfolk Island), Mr F. O Tattle (Melbourne, late of Napier) and Mrs H Pither (Masterton). One son. Mr. Philip G. Tattle, was killed at Gallipoli, and Mrs Tattle’s youngest son was killed in an aeroplane accident at Sydney
