At the Napier Court on Saturday before Messrs. R. Q, Wright and I‘. Wright, J.’sP., James Bernard McKenzie, aged 62 years, a commercial traveller, was charged with driving a car at Napier on Friday on the Marine Parade while in a state of intoxication. Mr. L. A. Rogers, who appeared for the defendant, entered a plea of guilty. Constable Hodge stated that be proceeded to the Marine Parade, where he found the defendant sitting iu his car with the engine running. A man had started the engine, as defendant said that lie could not start it. When tried by Constable Prater it started quite easily. Mr Rogers stated that the defendant was in a state of intoxication and was endeavouring to start the car, but did not succeed iu doing so. In view of the defendant agreeing to take out a prohibition order a fine of 1110 was imposed.
