A MATTER OF TWO MINUTES. MOTORIST SAVED FROM CONVICTION. A plea of not guilty was entered by H. G. Gasson at the Police Court, Napier, when he appeared before Messrs. J. W. Sandtmann and W. Dinwiddie, J.’s P., in answer to a charg© of driving a motor car at night without a tail light. Evidence was given by a constable that the defendant was seen on January 17 at 8.40 p.m. driving down Emerson street and there were no lights at the rear of the car.

Witness was cross-examined by defendant and stated that the Act required that lights be lit half an hour after sunset, which was at 8.8 p.m. on the evening in question. “Then I was only two minutes over the required time?” asked defendant.—Yes. The Bench decided to dismiss, the information.DANGEROUS DRIVING. A charge of dangerous driving faced Una M. J. Edgar, whose representative, Mr. Martin, entered a plea of guilty. Outlining the facts of the case Seuior-Sergeant Powell stated that the offence took place in Emerson street, where the defendant was travelling between 25 and 30 miles an hour. Counsel for the defence stated that the defendant was most careful and competent and on the night in question was hurrying home, as it was late, A fine of £1 with costs amounting to 10/- was inflicted. OTHER CASES. Riding a motor-cycle <ui the Marine Parade footpath cost Clay Cassin £l, including costs. For failure to nttend drill, J. W. Spark, Aubrey Mahoney and W. H. Mosely were fined £2 apiece; the costs in each case baing 10/-.
