ORCHARD PESTS.
(To the Editor). Sir, —There are three pests in an orchard that the grower has to contend with, chewing insects, fungoid disease and last but not least the “sucking” insects, such as leach and woolly aphis, the last-named being at one time the most prevalent, but now controlled by another parasite which kills and eats the aphis, and keeps the pest effectively in check. Although such a boon to orchardists, the parasite is not infallible, hence the odd “woolly aphis” that escapes occasionally, such as your correspondent of that name.—Yours, etc. APHELINAS MALI. Hastings, 3/2/28.
