GENERAL NOTES Nominations for Pahiat.ua close this (■Friday) evening at 9 o’clock, the Telegraph Office closing at 5 o’clock. It is a long time since the progeny of Absurd missed winning a race at an Ellerslie summer meeting, but they failed last week, although he had a few good horses. * • • The total prize-money (ineluding the £IOO gold cup) to bo paid away by the Auckland Racing Club in connection with the recent summer meeting at. Ellerslie, amount to £27.120. and as 57 owners participate if w~ be recognised that there is a wide distribution. The following is a list of flic principal winning owners:—G. Paul

£2570 G. G. Holmes £2400, J. Porter £2400’ A. B. Williams £l4OO T. H. Lowry £l3OO. E. L. Riddiford £l2OO, G. M. Currie £llOO, T. A. Duncan £lO5O, R. Hannon £lO5O, Mrs M. Blackmore £lOOO. * # # The Invercargill Cup field was one of the best that has ever lined up for the event, and it was a fine performance of Set Sail’s to win when giving away practicaly a stone to the nearest horse to her in the handicap. fc * • Camisader is a promising galloper (states a Southern writer) and one that looks like doing well over a distance later on. « » * F. D, Jones got through the Manawatu meeting with an excellent record. as Arikiwai and Stormy were winners, while First Sight, the other member of his team, filled second place in two races. First Sight is only a novice, with no previous experience. and his winning turn should come very soon. • » • / Amorist galloped right away from his field at Waikouaiti and had one of the easiest wins of the day. The win was recorded after a bolt right round the track. The general racing public had a very trying time during the four days of tho Auckland Racing Club’s summer meetings. The defeat of Childsplay in the Groat Northern Foal Stakes came as a big surprise, but when Eulalie and then Agnon let their admirers down, backers felt anything but pleased with themselves. On top of the defeat of Childsplay, Eulalie and Agrion Staghunter was backed as unbeatable in the Royal Stakes, and it certainly seemed as if tho Australian-bred colt would pull his backers through. However, like tho other three, Staghunter also failed and the best he could do was to run third in a field of four.
