CHESS MASTER

RET! MAY VISIT DOMINION

Richard Reti, one of the leading chess masters of the present day, is desirous of making a tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1928 if sufficient inducement is offered. Reti, who was born in Czecho-Slovakia 38 year ago, is the author of “Modern Ideas in Chees.” As a blindfold player he holds a world’s record, having played 29 games simultaneously, oi which he won 20, drew 7, and lost only 2. He has taken part with distinction in several European tourneys, his many honours including first prizes at Gothenburg (1920) and Carlsbad (1923). The win that he scored from Capablanca in the New York international tournament of 1921 was the world champion’s first loss in eight years. The Otago Chess C'.hih has decided to offer £25 and board and residence for a lour days’ visit to Dunedin. It is understood that the Auckland and Palmerston North Chess Clubs have this matter under consideration. The AVellington Club has not yet received a communication from the distinguished master. It may be added that New Zealand hrs only had one visit, from a chess master, and that was three years age, when Boris Kostieli, of Yugoslavia, included ibis Dominion in his world tour.
