SPANISH PLOT

To ASSASSINATE KING AND DE RIVERA AUTHORITIES' ADMISSION. (Received 4. 11.45 a.m.) Madrid. Oct. 3. The authorities admit the plot to assassinate the King and General de Rivera but seek to minimise its significance though they confirm the arrests and seizure of a large quantity oi explosives.—(A. and N.Z.) An overnight cable stated:—The “Daily Mail" says that conflicting week-end messages have been received regarding events in Spain. New agencies report a plot to murder King Alfonso and General de Rivera, and that there have been 30 arrests. Other reports state that 100 bombs were found and that Spanish army officers are believed to be implicated in a vast revolutionary conspiracy. It is stated that the Government crushed the threatened insurrection. Spanish official circles formally deny all these reports. Indications of a severe censorship have intensified the position.
