MEETING METROPOLITAN TO MURILLO. LIMERICK BEATEN BY 3J LENGTHS. Sydney, Oct. 3. After falling unceasingly since early morning, the rain eased off just before the first race on the second day of the A.J.C. spring meeting, but heavy, cold showers fell at intervals during the afternoon. The track was heavy. The attendance was 50,000 The New Zealanders Tariff and Ridgemount were prominent in the early stages of the Breeders’ Plate, but tailed over the last furlong, leaving Ramulus, brother of the famous Rampion, to win by threequarters of a length. Limerick was unfortunate to receive some knocks early in the Metropolitan. He was well back passing the stand the first time, when Drawbridge had the lead from Amounts. Murillo also was knocked back going along the back, but made a smart run round the bend. Horton Gag led into the straight, where Murillo shot to the front with Limerick, who had come up on the outside, in close attendance, but Limerick was unable to get up. Murillo won by three and a half lengths. Results: — THE SHORTS. Calmest (8.10), Mr. G. A. Ward’s b m, by Greenstend—Airify, 4 years 1 Greenline (7.8), Mr. L. S. Barnett’s br g, by Greenstead— Ayreline, 3 vears 2 Whitta (6,10), Mr. H. A. Taylor’s b m, by Burrabadeen— Full, 5 years 3 Eleven started, including White Fang. Whitta made the early running, but ran wide at the turn. Calmest camo away approaching the post and won by two lengths. Time, 1.154BREEDERS’ PLATE. Ramulus (8.5) ; Messrs. J. E. nnd 0. H. Brien’s bro, by Rossendale (imp.)—Royal Pet imp.), 2 years 1 Celloki (8.2), Mr. H. S. Taylor’s ch g, by Violoncello (imp.)— Kiki, 2 vears 2 Golden Music (8.2), Mr. A. G. ’White’s b g, by Rossendale (imp.)—Golden Cello, 2 years 3 Seventeen started, including Ridgemount and Tariff. Tariff was first away and headed the field with Ramulus till entering the straight. Onoe they were headed for home Hamulus and Celloki came away together, and in a close finish Ramulus gained the verdict by threequarters of a'length. Time. 1.4. THE METROPOLITAN. Murillo (E) (8.0) (Bartie), Mr. E. A. Connelly’s b g, by Gainsborough—Roya, 6yrs. 1 Limerick (9.5) iMcCarten), Mr. H. A. Knight’s br or blk g, by ■ Limond (imp.)—Medley, 4 years 2 Horton Gng (7.10) (Davidson), Mrs. E.Legge’s b h, by Rangag (imp.)—Horton Queen, 5 years 3 Nineteen started. Pantheon, Valamita and Octember were scratched. In a good start Drawbridge immediately took the lead and showed the way out of the straight, where Beedos shot to the front and established a couple of lengths advantage, which he held till leaving the back. Murillo made a great run on the inside rounding the bend and went to the front passing the St. Leger stand, and in an excellent finish came on to win from Limerick by three and a half lengths. Horton Gag three lengths away third. Time 2.534. FIRST STEEPLECHASE. Pompene (9.6), Mr. D. Grant’s blk g, by Pompous (imp.)— 0.D.U., aged 1 Mendit (9.7), Mr. J. W. Cook’s eh g, by Brakespear (imp.)— Skoperra, aged 2 Prince Arim (10.10), Mr. j. Phoenix’s b g. bv Arim— Eppitnax, 6 years 3 t Nine started, including Passin’ Through. Pompene and Mendit were always handy. Prince Arim joined the leaders going up the hill the second time. In a close finish Pompene won by two and a half lengths. Passin’ Through was well back fourth. Grey King fell. Time 4.39.

Habashon jumped to the front from the barrier and held that position, winning in an exciting finish by threequarters of a length. Son o’ Mine, after a bad start, finished fourth. Time, 2.0|. SQUATTERS’ HANDICAP. Amusement (6.7), Mr. T. Murray’s blk g, by Comedy King (imp.)—Sumurun, 4 years ... 1 Coin Nut (9.0), Mr. D, J. Kerr’s blk h, by Piastre—Nut Brown 6 years 2 Kalloni (6.7), Mr. R. Wootton’s br g, bv Polycrates (imp.)— Margalo, 5 years 3 Thirteen started, including Battlement, who was squeezed out at the start, but ran a great race on the outside. However, he could not get up.
