After twenty-three years' service as engineer, and thirteen as engineer and secretary to the Lyttelton liar hour Board. Air C. J- R Williams retired from the Board's service on Friday.
At the last meeting of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board Mr. D. Jones, ALP., was unanimously reelected chairman of the board for the ensuing twelve months.
Mr. P. J. H. O’Connor, of the Hastings Railway clerical'staff, who has been on relief duty, has been transferred permanently to the Woodville station, whence he left this morning.
Alessrs. T. Mitchell, J. J. Faulkner, F. Huntley, J. McKeesick, G. N. Pharazyn, T. Harrison, 1. Fail and G. Roberts were last night elected members of the Hawke’s Bay Acclimatisation Society.
Aliss Rainbow, daughter of Mr A. I. Rainbow, of Hastings, was at last evening’s meeting of the Heretaunga Swimming Club presented with a certificate for breaking standard time at the last Hawke’s Bav championshins. Air A. A. George made the presentation.
Commandant Cook, of Hastings, who has been on the west eoast of this island for several weeks, has returned in order to conduct the marriage of his son, Air. Henry B. Cook, to Aliss Grertude Pendell, at the Salvation Army Hall, Hastings, tomorrow afternoon at 2.30 o’clock.
Air E. W. Houghton, for many years connected with the Tourist Afotor Co.. Ltd., has resigned to take up an important position with Alessrs A. Hatrick and Co.. Ltd., as their managing representative for Hawke’s Bay. A branch of this well-known firm has recently opened un in Has tings as a motor-car sales and ser vice depot. One of the obvious advantages of radio telephony is that it enables communication to be carried on between pomes winch cannot easily be connected by wires. A notable case in which ready communication js very desirable but would be. if wired telephones were used, prohibitively costly, is on a section of the Milford Track between Glade House and Lake Te Anau. The Tourist Department has ordered a 200-watt radioplioue equipment for use in this section, which is traversed by steamer. It Is impossible to lav a telephone line round the almost inaeoeasiolo, foreatclad shore of the lake and the absence of means of communication has long been very inconvenient.—(Press Association.)
