N.Z. SANITARY INSPECTORS
CONFERENCE AT WAIPAWA. A meeting of the Hawke’s Bav Centre of the New Zealand Sanitarv Inspectors’ Association was held in the Waipawa County Chambers on Thursday, representatives being present from Gisborne to Dannevirke, as follows:—lnspectors E. Grant (Napier), secretary 4 A. C. Fawcett (Hastings). P. A. Milne (Health De partment. Napier). E. F. Leicester (Havelock North). D. Evans (H.B. County Council). J. Scott (Woodville). P. Welch (Health Department. Dannevirke). H. Fletcher (Waipawa). Dr. Mercer was also present. The delegates were given a cordial welcome to Waipawa bv His Worship the Mayor. Mr H. M. Rathbone, who stressed the good work performed bv the inspectors in health matters, and wished the delegates a pleasant and profitable meeting. Dr. Mercer, medical officer of health for the district, thanked His Worship on behalf of the delegates and con gratulated the borough on having the new by-laws in force, which included health laws, and showed that the local bodies were keenly alive do the necessity of safeguarding the community. Inspector Fawcett then spoke on behalf of the delegates and welcomed Dr. Mercer back to the district after an absence of some months. Various matters were discussed that were of interest to the sanitarv world, and a working committee was elected to formulate a scheme to deal with the Dominion Conference of Sanitarv inspectors to be held in Napier in January. 1928. Dr. Mercer gave an instructive talk on sanitation in coal mines and tlie adaptability of man to environ ment. A vote of thanks to Dr. Mercer for presiding and to the Waipawa County Council for the use of the Coiiniv Chambers closed a successful in<-*4»-nig.
