A NIGHT TRAIN
BETWEEN NAPIER AND WELLINGTON DEPARTMENT URGED TO EXPERIMENT. (Special to “Tribune.”) Parlt. Buildings, Oct. 1. A suggestion that the Government should run night trains between Napier and Wellington was advocated by Mr. W. D. Lysnar and Sir George Hunter during the debate on the Railways Statement yesterday. Mr Lysnar said that such service would be a great convenience, especially to business men. Sir George Hunter said that if the Government would give an opportunity of testing whether it was likely to be a profitable experiment he thought it would be found that it would lie so, and that travellers would be very glad indeed to take advantage of it. “It will be an enormous convenience to business men,’’ he said, “and if that experiment was .only tried during the summer months I feel quite confident that it will prove financially a success. 1 appeal to the Department to consider the establishing of .that night train in the future.” Mr J, Mason said the traffic between Napier and Wellington justified isuch a service. 'At present one could not come to Wellington without having to lose three days. The Minister should run an experimental service, and the speaker felt sure it would be a success.
Mr. Mason complained of windows on some carriages which, through not being in proper order, could not be opened or shut easily. Greater concessions should be made covering children of school age
