HERETAUNGA CLUB LAST SEASON REVIEWED. The new swimming season officially opens to-day and below is a review of the past season as shown in the annual report of the Heretaunga Swimming and Life-Saving Club, which will he holding its annual meeting on Monday. “The past season was one of the most successful in the history of the club, both from a swimming and a financial viewpoint,” reads the report. “As will be seen from the balance-sheet the season’s workings showed a nett profit of £29 4/4. which is most satisfactory. This was chiefly brought about by the increased membership, which stands at the very creditable figure of 251, and the committee trusts that bv continued efforts this number will be surpassed in the comini; season.

“During the season two inter-club carnivals were held, which proved very successful, more particularly the second one, when the club had t pleasure of presenting for the first time in Hastings Mr. D. P Lindsay New Zealand champion, and the committee feels sure that swimming in this district greatly benefited by his visit. One school children’s carnival was held which proved most successful, and the committee wishes to congratulate the Hastings Central School in again retaining the Maddison Shield for most noints in championship events, and also the Roach Cup for championship teams race.

THE NEAV ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

“The New Zealand championship meeting wns held in Auckland, where five of the chib's members were chosen to represent the Hawke's Bay Centre with the following verv gratifying results:—Miss L. Hood, first N.Z. Indies' uiving championship: Miss P Jones, second N.Z. ladies’ divine championship; Miss Z. Fryer, second N.Z. school girls’ 50 raids, breaststroke: Mr. G. Geddis. third N.Z. men’s diving championship: Master C. McKee, second N.Z. intermediate diving championship “The committee wishes to congratulate these members on their achievements which are a gieat credit to the club and to the province which they ropresenreu. THE LOCAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. “In the Hawke’s Bay championships several members competed with the .following results:—Miss P Jones, first ladies’ diving championship; Miss L Hood, second ladies’ diving championshin ■ Mr. H Rose, second Dead Head men’s 50 yards third men’s 100 yards, third men’s 220 yards; Mr. G Geddis. first men's diving championship Messrs M Rose, M. Clifton, H. Baird. W. Spence, first championship teams race for the Swain Memorial Cup, and the committee extends its congratulations Io all of them on their success. Mr. G. Beach is also to be congratulated on hi s performances in inter-club races during the season, being successful in winning the much-coveted Kinross White Cup (for most points in inter-cluh races! mid also dendheating with two others for thHnwhe's Uav '7ar Memorial Cup. “I he races for the various cups and trophies in tho club competitions were very keenly contested and some excellent finishes resulted.
