The Hawke’s Bay *'iampionship resolved itself into a struggle between the two Maori players, Kapi Tareha, the present Hawke’s Bay champion, and A. Whiti Whiti. The end of the morning’s play over the first 18 holes saw Tareha with a lead of five on his opponent, both of whom were playing golf Which, although perhaps not up to tlie standard of previous years, afforded no little interest to their followers. With this formidable lead it was expected that after the luncheon adjournment. Tareha would have matters quite in hand, but this was hardly so, as he failed to reproduce his form of previous occasions and at times it seemed as if Whiti Whiti would give his more formidable opponents a good game for the title. However, towards the end of the round Tareha played more up to his usual form and was finally able to retain the championship, being five up with four holes to go. TROPHIES PRESENTED.
