OLD AGE PENSIONS

EFFECTIVE IN BRITISH COLUMBIA. 13,000 PEOPLE - OVER 70 IN PRO VINCE. ; (Received 30, 12.30 p.m.) Vancouver, Sept. 29. Old Age Pensions are now effective in British Columbia which is the first province to participate in the national plan. The Canadian Government pays half tne benefit. Reecipients must be 70 years of age and British subjects of 20 years residence in Canada and five years residence in British Columbia. The maximum payable is 240 denars annually, reuuciblc accordingly where the income is 125 dollarts auu up. Two centenarians will benefit. The census shows there are 13,000 people over 70 in the province,—(A. and N.Z.)
