MUSIC IN THE AIR
RUSSIAN PROFESSOR FINDS IT A REMARKABLE INVENTION VAST POSSIBILITIES. (By Cable—Press Assn. — Copyright.) (Received 30, 12.30 p.m-) Berlin, Sept. 29. A remarkable invention whereby music is extracted from the air was revealed at a demonstration in Bechstern Hall attended by Einstein and many German iTolessors and Mr U. B. Cochran. The inventor. Professor Theremin, of Russia, stood on the stage near a small wooden box whereirom a loot-long brass rod projected. The professor merely vibrated his fingers in the air as though playing a musical instrument and instantly a tune was extracted as a result of the agitation of the waves reacting upon the instrument. The scientists .accepted an invitation to "play ou the air” and everyone succeeded in obtaining a tune. The nearer the hand drew to the brass rod the higher the note, a deeper tone resulting as the hand withdrew. Certain notes can also Be produced by merely blinking the eyes or moving the muscles of the face at the right distance from the instrument. The scintists agree that the invention has vast possibilities—(A. and N.Z.)
