SKILL, BRAVERY AND DARING ITALIAN PRINCE'S TRIBUTE. TO WINNERS OF SCHNEIDER CUP. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 30, 11.30 a.m.) Rugby, Sept. 29. The Schneider Trophy, which is too large and heavy for actual presentation, was symbolically handed to the victorious British team at an official luncheon at the Italian Aero Club, Venice, yesterday. Prince Scalea, president of .the club, in expressing admiration of the British material and personnel, said: "We hope we shall again win this trophy, but in the meantime no words of praise can be too high for the skill, bravery, and daring of the British victors." A Government luncheon, over which the British Ah .Minister, Sir Samuel lloare, will preside, will be given in celebration of the British victory after the return of Lieutenant Webster and the other members of the team, who reach London on Saturday. The Royal Aero Club and other aeronautical bodies are also giving a banquet in their honour. The winning seaplane will be used by the Air Ministry for further experiments in high speed flying. ARRANGEMENTS FOR HOMECOMING, Sir Philip Sassoon, Under-Secretary for Air, flew back to London yesterday from Venice. It has now been arranged that Flight Lieutenant Webster, who won the Schneider Cup, shall return home with Lieutenants Worsley and Kinkead, the other members of the British team, by air. The men will journey from Venice to Paris by train, and then embark as passengers on an air-liner for Croydon, where they will arrive on Saturday afternoon.

The air liner will be escorted from the coast by special Royal Air Force machines, and*members of the Cabinet and many other representatives of the aviation world will be present. A huge crowd is expected at Croydon. The airmen are at any rate assured of a great popular welcome. It is estimated that the aerodrome can accommodate something like 200,000 spectators. The winning Super-Marine Napier So seaplane and other machines are being brought home by a naval vessel It is hoped to be possible to exhibit the seaplane to the public, who have had no opportunity of inspecting it, since it was shown only to a few privileged visitors at Calshot before going to Venice UNEXPECTED SEQUEL. LIEUT. WEBSTER’S ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED. WEDDING WHEN “FUSS IS • OVER.” (Received 30, 12.55 p.m. London, Sept. 29. An unexpectedsequel to Lieutenant Webster's success is the announcement that he is engaged to Miss Enid' Darnley, of Ipswich. The bride-to-be states that the wedding will take place next month or as soon as the “fuss” is over. Lieutenant Webster, who was recently stationed at Martlesham Heath, used to fly low over his sweetheart’s house at Ipswich and drop love letters in the garden. The lady says:— "Everybody in the household was frightened, but I wasn't,” Elaborate preparations are being made to welcome the British Schneider Cup team at Croydon on Friday, They will fly from Le Bourget escorted by Imperial Airway machines.—(A. and N.Z.)
