HAWKE’S BAY JOCKEY CLUB

SPRING MEETING TO-MORROW

SPLENDID ACCEPTANCES

The acceptances for the H B. Jockey Club’s one-clay spring meeting to be held on the club's course at Hastings to-morrow, closed last evening, and the response from owners was very encouraging. Each event has filled .well and there should be some keen racing. Backers will have Napier Park form to guide them, as most of the horses engaged there will be running to-morrow, but there are also a number of fresh horses, and these may upset calculations somewhat. With a continuance of the fine weather the track will be in good going order. There will be the usual special train arrangements, ana the country people as far .as Waipukurau will be able to reach the course in time for the first race, and get home again before it is dark. The acceptance list is as follows:—

The hurdles race, the first event on the card, is timed to start at 12 noon. Peneus has a good weight and may find it hard to concede Garzon 71b and Bed Fuchsia 151 b. Braeman ran well at the Park, and though he is set down to carry a stone more, he should give a good account of himself. Lombardo may best be suited to the distance, and probably he, Garzon and Braeman will be the popular picks.

In the above field Dreamy may improve on his second at Napier. Liaison is a speedy sort, and Cione is a likely customer. These three may command the public’s support. Hawke’s Bay Guineas. Of 400 sovs.; 1 mile. Marsurd Ganymede Singleton Torquil Arrow Lad Teri King Midas Paleta Excess Cosmetic Doree Fairy Mark Tea Lady Thirteen so far remain in the Guineas, but there probably will he a big weeding out before the race starts. With Paleta engaged the public will not look much further. Cosmetic and King Midas may be the best backed of the others. Spring Handicap. Of 250 soys. ; 1} mile.

Gaze was the only defection from the Spring Handicap leaving a field of seven to face the starter. There fresh horses in Star Area, Novar and Imperial Spark, have paid up. Bennanee, Tresham and Novar may be the favourites.

A nice field of 10 have paid up for the Nursery. On his Napier running Raasay will probably go out favourite with Monetize and Sunny Autumn the next sought after. Glenaray Handicap. Of 200 sovs.; 1 mile.

If Lipsol starts in this race in preference to the Flying he may be the elect of backers, but on Road Hog’s running at the Park he may go close to him in the betting, as Lipsol has to concede him 181 b. Merle' is another that may prove troublesome, and if Queen’s Choice is in right form he may be in the firing line. The public may sort out Road Hog, Lipsol and Merle to carry their money. Flaxmere Handicap. Of 150 sovs.; 6 furlongs.

The biggest field of the day is engaged in the Flaxmere Handicap and punters will have a task to sort out the winner. Mountain Heath woir so nicely at tjie Park that he is sure to be W'ell sought after. Silver Tray is a likely sort, and Abisogne has heen racing well. Marsurd (if reserved for this race) should show up. The favourites may be Mountain Heath. Marsurd and Abisogne. Flying Handicap. Of 200 sovs.; 6 furlongs.

For the final event seven horses have paid up. Inner Harbour, Riverna and Decoy Bird ntay carry the most money.
