MEDICAL STAFFS
AT SECONDARY HOSPITALS.
(Per Press Xssociatiou). Palmerston N., Sept 30, Speaking at the laying of the foundation stone of the maternity home on Monday, Dr. Valintine stated that in secondary hospitals such as Palmerston North, Wanganui, and Napier, the medical side was to a large extent neglected. This statement is challenged by Sir J. G. Wilson, chairman of the local Hospital Board, who, in the absence of the medical superintendent, who confines himself entirely to physician’s work and whose specialty is the treatment of medical cases, says: “At the present time we have one honorary medical officer appointed exclusively as physician and five other honorary medical officers appointed as surgeons and physicians. These latter act both in medical and surgical cases and are at the present time controlling the medical cases in the hospital with the utmost skill and care. These cases have not been left to junior assistants.”
