Pleas of guilty were entered by Robert Barter in the Magistrate’s Court at Christchurch yesterday, that, being a prohibited person, he procured liquor from two hotels and that he attempted to bribe a constable. The police evidence was that Barter, when eaught in an hotel by a consistable offered the constable money. In a statement to the police Barter said he offered the constable money because he had heard of otln men having done it. He waa fined £5 for attempted bribery and on two charges of procuring liquor while prohibited, £3 and £l. A fine of £4O was inflicted on James Henry Dolemau, tobacconist, of Frankton by Wyvern Wilson, S.M., at Hamilton yesterday; on a charge of conducting premises as a common gaming house. The evidence alleged bookmaking and the publication of n double chart.
