Quick developments have brought Scotland Yard within measurable distance of arresting Constable Gutteridge’s murderers. The abandoned motor car found at Brixton was stolen from an Essex doctor on the night of the murder and evidently used bv the desperadoes. Besides tile sue nt revolver cartridges fitting the bullet in Gubteridge's body and found inside the car, there was a senes of fingerprints on the windscreen which are of supreme value.
A waterside worker also picked up a heavy service revolver on the Ihnincs foreshore, at Haiumersmitji Bridge, when the tide receded. lit had obviously been in the water only a few hours. Cartridges in if were of a similar make and calibta to that found t n the doctor’s car (A. and -Z.) A MAN SURRENDERS. BULLETS FOUND LN CAR. (Received 29. 2.30 p.m.) , , London, Sept. 28. A man giving the name of Andrew Baldwing surrendered himself in connection with the murder of Constable Gutteridge. It is alleged that he stated he wa« nuing a bicycle without a light when Gutteridge stopped him. AAer am argument he “let him have it.” Baldwing; calmly surrendered in Basingstoke Market Square, hut became violent at the poiix-e station. The police are inclined to the*vi< w that Baldwing is suffering from hair formation and that he had nothing to do with the crime. Meanwhile a blond-.taino,} motor car has been found abandoned m Brixton and two spent bullets the same size as those which killed Gutteridge, were found embedded in the foot mat—(A. and N.Z.)
