NAPIER CLUB TOURNEY PLAY IN HEAVY RAIN. QUALIFYING ROUNDS COMPLETED. The opening of tho Napier Golf Club’s Tournament took place yesterday. Heavy rain set in shortly after the commencement, but even with this handicap some good cards were handed in. The best card of the day, a 74, was returned by D. R. Pharazyn, being a remarkably fine performance under the weather conditions prevailing and four strokes better than the bogey of the course. His card read as follows:—Out: 5,5, 3,4, 4,5, 4, 3. 4—37. In: 4,4, 4,4, 4,4, 3,5, 5—37. Total, 74. The trophy presented for the best gross score in the two qualifying rounds was won by John Tareha, who did the first round in 78 and the second in 77, a total of 155. The best putting card of the day was returned by P. F. Higgins, 16. The qualifying rounds for the championship were all completed and match play commences to-day.
