Ru gby. September 24. Recent prolonged rains have caused widespread floods, with extensive loss of crops and live stock, in North England, many parts of Scotland ana Northern Ireland. Great inconveni ence to traffic of all descriptions has been caused along the whole of the London. Midland and Scottish railway lines, from Glasgow to Crewe, a distance of over 250 miles. Wide areas of land are under water in the Lake district. The rain has not ceased for over 60 hours, and in some places gauges have registered five to six inches. Heavy rains continue throughout the British Isles. One of the cities which has been most affected is Edinburgh, manv parts of which are badly floodea. causing considerable distressTwo seaplanes belonging to the coastal reconnaissance service of the Royal Air Force, which have been touring seaside resorts encountered heavy weather off Bournemouth nier to day, and were badly damaged. While attempting to make for Poole harbour for safety one of them foundered and the other landed on a sandbank. but was towed eventually into Poole. No lives were lost.
