OBITUARY

MR. JOHN HURST. A well known and respected resident of Hastings passed away at the Napier Hospital yesterday, in the person of Mr John Hurst, at the good age of 81 years. He was born in Manchester, England, in 1846 and, while a youth, he served his time as an engineer, subsequently entering the Manchester police force. Forty years ago he left the Old Country for Australia, where he started farming operations, and it is eighteen years since he came to Hastings and established himself in a tailoring business He was a Mason and was at one time a member of the Orange Lodge. He leaves two sons—Mr. George Hurst, tailor, of Hastings, with another in Australia—and one daughter. Mrs D. Guymer. of Hastings. The funeral will leave 500 Willowpark road for the Hastings Cemetery, to-morrow (Tuesday) at 2.30 pm.
