Mr J. B. Dunlop, of Dunedin, sail ed from Wellington by the LTimaroa on Friday en route to London. He has proved himself one of the strongest chess players in the Dominion, and it is his intention to take part in the tournament for the British chess championship next Easter. He has won the New Zealand championship tor three years in success (1921-23).

Mr. T. K, Sidey. M.P.. arrived Dunedin by the express on Saturday evening, and was accorded an en thusiastic welcome at the railway station in recognition ot tho passing of the Summer lime- Bill. He was addressed by the Mayor, and later in the evening, the Town Hall packed with a most .enthusiastic audience, who cheered Mr Sidey most lustily.

The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Cotes) travelled to Temata to open the new Post Office to-dav. Latei he addressed meetings at Raglan and Te Oku. During the weekend the Hon. A. D. McLeod visited Orini Settlement, where he was met by deputations, who asked for Government assistance in drainage work and the provision of a school. —(Press Association.)

The funeral of the late Mr. T, W. Lewis took place on Saturday afternoon at the Havelock North cemetery on the arrival of the afternoon train from Wellington. Many influen. tial persons, professional and otherwise, were represented, including Mr and Mrs Mohi. of Paki Paki. who represented the Maori rao». The Rev. F. A. Bennett conducted the Church of England service at the graveside. A large number of beautiful wreaths were sent by sympathisers.
