WAIPUKURAU.
At the third annual meeting of the Waipukurau Operatic, Musical and Dramatic Society held on Wednesday night there was a fairly large attendance of members, the president (Mr. F. V. Ward) presiding.
The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Sir Georgu Hunter, M.P.; president. Mr. F. V. Ward; vicepresidents, Messrs Percy Hunter. E. Limbrick, R. McLean, J. W. Harding, P. F. Wall, J. D. Ormond, L. M. Monckton, and J. D Todd; secretary, Mr. J Boyce; musical director, Mr. S. H. Wood; stage manager, Mr. JK. Lee; committee. Messrs J. E. Hall. E. H. Leigh. B. Mathieson, E. Malkin, and A. Chambers. It was decided to commence rehearsals of the next production early in November and stage same not later than April. Hearty vote s of thanks were accorded to the late secretary, Mr. Mathieson. to whose services the president had paid a high tribute >n his annual report, retiring officers, and Mr Limbrick.
PAKI PAKI.
On Friday evening last was held the usual social and dance in the school. The attendance was not as good as.usual but those present spent a most enjoyable evening. This was in part due to the fact that the committee has made definite arrangement’s with Mr. Wi Kanj to provide the music for the dancing. The winners in the euchre were: Ladies, Mrs Claude Rosser. Miss F. Spiers, consolation; gentlemen. Mr. C. Rosser. Mr. J. Kenrick, consolation. The committee has decided to hold the annual fancy dress ball on Friday, October 7, and arrangements are being made to ensure its being an event to be rementiered. The committee is meeting again on Friday next to make all arrangements and it is to he hoped the whole district will rally around them.
Sickness is still very prevalent in this district and many children are suffering from tnumps and measles.
HOCKEY.
N.Z. TEAM UNBEATEN. PLAYED 14 GAMES: WON 12. Sydney, Sept. 1. The New Zealand hockey team finished its tour of Australia unbeaten. Its record is: Played 14 games, won 12, and drew two; they scored 109 goals, while 15 were scored against them. The “Herald” says their performance is the best of any dominion hockey team that has played Australia.
SOCCER FOOTBALL
TEAMS FOR SATURDAY. The following Hastings United players are to be on Cornwall Park on Saturday (with kit) at 2.30 p.m.--Wilson. Gillon, Conroy, A. Clark, Vic Clark. H, J. Clark, Stinson, H. Penman. D. Penman, W. Penman, Farnell and Hew.

PARKVALE CLUB. DRAW FOR LADIES’ GAMES. Following is the draw for the ladies’ medal match to be played tomorrow afternoon, commencing at 1.30 o’clock. This will also be a qualifying round for the A grade championship, Miss Masters plays Miss N. Atkin. Miss E. Garnett plays Miss F. M. Atkin. Miss Greedman plays Miss Dalton. Mrs. Cowlrick plays Mrs. Freedman. Mrs. Robson plays Miss M. Hardy. Mrs. Matthews plays Mrs. Coles. Mrs Garrod plays Mrs. Vesty. Miss Webb plays Mrs. McLeod. Miss Dawson plays Miss N. White. Miss Fippard plays Miss V. Stairmand. •
Miss Wright plays Mrs. Scrivener. Mrs. Short plays Mrs. Toothill. Miss Robson plays Miss Poppelwell.
Any player not drawn and wishing to play will be allotted a partner on the links. Competitors desirous of qualifying for the championship must signify their intentio nof doing so before the commencement of play.
