Ernest Alfred Lacey, of Whangarei, charged with carrying on the business of bookmaker ami keeping a gaming house, was convicted and lined £2O on the first charge and convicted and discharged on the second. The police were not antagonistic, stating the accused was only a minor offender ami otherwise of reputable character. A female clerk charged with assisting to carry on the business was convicted and discharged.
