CRIME IN U.S.A.
New York, Aug. 28.
Two sensational robberies and a murder occurred during the week end here.
Judson Pratt, son of a wealthy architect, was shot and killed while delivering a 4700 dollars pay roll to his father’s firm. A policeman who usually accompanied him when the latter drew largo sums of money from the bank for conveyance to the firm, was to-day arrested. The policeman had purchased a new automobile for cash and spent the evening with a companion at night clubs, where he handed out hundreds of dollars as tips, claiming that he had come into a legacy. Mrs James Snowden, a leading society figure, after acting in an amateur musical revue, given at a fashionable watering place, Southampton, returned home and left 100,000 dollars worth of jewels, which had worn luring the performance, upon a dressing table. This morning the jewels had disappeared. There is no clue.—(A. and N.Z.)
