CHRISTCHURCH TO AUCKLAND
CAPT. FINDLAY’S FLIGHT.
Auckland, Aug. 28. A flight from Christchurch to Auckland, by Captain J. L. Findlay of Wigram Aerodrome, Christchurch, was completed to-day. The distance
was approximately 600 miles. Capt. Findlay and his m e c h a n i c left ChrisUhurch a t 6.50 on Saturday morning in a I) H type machine, and shortly after 8 a.m. the airmen were over Blenheim. A perfect landing was affected, but the soil proved soft
ana the wheels of the aeroplane sank into the ground, the machine toppling over. The propeller was splintered, the radiator burst and other damage done. Findlay and the mechanic were injured. Arrangements were made to continue the Hight in a Bristol machine, and in this Captain Findlay and the mechanic resumed the Hight from Blenheim at 2.30 yesterday afternoon. Hawera was reached at 4 p.m., ami here the airmen remained for the night. The Hight was resumed from Hawera at 10.50 this morning, ami just two hours later the aeroplane landed at. the appointed place at Mange re, eight miles from Auckland Except for the accident at Blenheim the Hight was uneventful, and was
