WIRELESS TELEPHONY
EXPERIMENTS WITH SOUTH AMERICA. TRANSATLANTIC SERVICE PAYING. (Received 29, 9.40 a.m.) London, Aug. 28. “The Evening News” reports a Marconi official as saying that beam telephonic experiments are at present imposible, as the stations belong to the Post Office. The experiments will be undertaken by the South American Beam Service. Mr. Marconi said he believed that empire telephony would not necessitate more beam stations as certain wave lengths, several of which are usable simultaneously, could be deevoted to telephony.—(A. and N.Z.)
The British Post Office states that the revenue from the trans fAtlantic wireless telephone service now covers the working expenses. Dbspite the charge of £l5 for a three minutes’ call, the use of the service is slowly increasing.—British Official Wireless.
