There is now, it is believed, in excellent chance that tne Summertime (Daylight Saving) Bill will become law this session. Some of those interested have been conferring with officials of the Railway Department, and it is stated that there will be no great difficulty in arranging country time-tables to suit dairy farmers under the Summer-time Act. This removes the principal objection to the bill, and if the measure passes the Lower House again there seems to be no likelihood that the Legislative Council will oppose its passing into law.-
Attention to the fact that there are no educational facilities in New Zealand enabling people n this country to obtain the qualifications lequired for veterinary surgeons under the Act passed last rear, was drawn in a special report submitted to the House of Representatives vesterdav by the Agricultural and Pastoral Industries and Stock Committee. The committee therefore recommended that, peding the provision of such facilities, a system of bursaries or scholarships should be established '.o enable persons to qualify, either in in Australia or in Great Britain. The report and the recommendation were referred to the Government for favourable consideration. The committee had no recommendation to make with to a petition which was presented' to House, asking that persons who had practised as veterinary surgeons for a period of six rears prior to the passing of the Act last year should he entitled to register as ■.veterinary surgeons.
