Mr. Justice Herdman will leave tor England next January for a twelve months’ holiday, to which he is en titled on completion of ten years service as a Judge.
Mr. Lyall, of Palmerston North the new headmaster of the Havelock North School, will take up his duties next month.
Mr. Erie Macpherson, a pupil of the Otago School of Mines, has been appointed an oil-geologist on the staff of the Anglo-Persisyi Oil Co., Ltd , and will leave New Zealand at an early date.

Mrs A. L. D. Fraser, of Hastings, has been called away to Wellington, owing to the serious illness of her daughter, Mrs Miri Hill, whose condition is causing grave anxiety. A wire received in Hastings this morning states that Mrs Hill shows a slight improvement.
Miss Ena Riley of Hastings has been successful in securing her A.T.C.L. degree (pianoforte), having passed the examination with honours. Mr Arthur Young, of St. Aubyn street, has also passed for the same degree.
A Sydney cable reports that a passenger on the steamer Orama is Sub-Lieutenant G. de Chair the elder son of the Governor of New South Wales, who is en route to New Zealand to take a position in the New Zealand Navy
The death took place at Hamilton during this week of Mr. William Hodgson, a native of Cumberland, ah old Waikato settler. The deceased gentleman foi some time after .is arrival in 1882 was closely identified with the Grice property at Roto-o-rangi. and was afterwards engaged in farming in the Te Arohn district
