MARKETING FARM PRODUCE

ECONOMIES IN SELLING COSTS. Writing on the subject of the better marketing of farm produce, Lord Linlithgow cads attention to a point which is of interest to New Zealand farmers. It is that economies in selling costs may seem to represent but a small fraction of the selling price of the produce. But such economies, measured against net profits, are by no means insignicant; and it is by his net profits and not by the extent of his turnover that the fanner must needs live. Good salesmanship, in addition to cutting selling costs, provokes increased demand and so tends to induce better prices. If skilled marketing is no cure for agricultural depression, it does at least offer certain definite advantages such as no farmer in these difficult days can afford to neglect.
