“INDEPENDENT" DAYS.

COLONEL BELL’S RECOLLECTIONB. MEMORABLE THREE YEARS. (Special to “Tribune.”) Wallinton, July 13. Humorous reference to the speech made by Mr. W 8. Glenn (Rangitigei on Friday night was made by Colonel Allen Bell in the Honse last Bight. “I could not help recalling the happy days when I once stood in this chamber as an Independent,” remarked Colonel Bell. “In those days the hon. member war continually inviting me to come into the party whip’s room. He used to say that it was a lovely place and a beautiful place in •very way, and that once there I would meet some splendid people from the Prime Minister downwards (Laughter.) He used to say that, as far as the caucuses were concerned, it was the finest place in the world. HE HOPPED OUT. “Alas, for me, 1 eventually succumbed to his advances. (Renewed laughter). As soon as I got into the Reform political pack he hopped out, and now those happy days have gone by. He rolls and swings along with an independent air. (Laughter.) I wish him the same happy time in his independent states as I had during those memorable three years.”
