SERVICE OVERSEAS.
OFFICIALS OF DEPARTMENT*. VALUE OF PERIODICAL VISITS, (Received 12, 11.30 a.m.) London, July 11. In the House of Commons Mr Hom bert Williams (Con Reading) asked whether it was the practice for Colonial Office officials to serve for a period in one administrative post overseas and periodically visits the parts of the Empire wherewith their work was concerned. The Hon. L. M. Amery said that! the sending of officials for service overseas, as a general practice presents serious administrative difficuk ties, but arrangements were recently made for two officers to be attached to the staffs of the Governors of Ceylon and Nigeria for about two and three years respectively. Ho hoped to make similar overseas arrangements for the future-
Appointments to an administrative grade in the Colonial Office were now subject to acceptances of the liability to service overseas for a minimum period of a year. He was convinced of the value of suggested periodical visits. Several had occurred in the past few years and others were oom. templated in the near future.—, (A.P.A. and “Sun” cable).
