SUCCESSFUL DANCE.
The Oddfellows’ Haji, Hastings, presented a very bright appearance on Friday night, when a dance, organised by tile Clifton Commercial College, was held. Students of the school had spared no trouble in carrying out the scheme of decorations. Purple and gold, the school colours, had been chosen, and the lamps Were all covered in shades of these two tones- In the centre of the dancing room hung a large bell of purple and gold paper petals, from this a cascade-streamer effect was obtained by countless purple and gold fluted paper pendants radiating to all sides of the room.
In the supper room the same effective colours were chosen, and here the delectable dishes set forth presented a festive appearance. Branches of yellow mimosa were also arranged in the rooms. Mr P. Walden presided at the piano and provided the latest ‘‘hits” in music.
About 200 dancers spent an enjoyable time, till after midnight, Mr A. M. Sheriff acting as organiser during the evening. Some of those present were:— Mrs Gilby, wearing a handsome dress of black satin.
Miss Gilby, m pink crepe-de-chine prettily ornamented with bead dowers.
Mrs P. Robertson, wearing an attractive dress of pale green. Airs Sherriff in a smart black dress.
Mrs White wore a smart coatwrap.
Miss Bessie Claughton wore a pretty red panne velvet frock, with effective panel skirt.
Miss Una Griggs was daintily attired in Mary-blue lace. Miss Mabel Whelan wore a sweet heliotrope taffetas, with cloudy tulle scarf-
Miss Audrey Biel was in turquoise crepe-de-chine with silver skirt. Miss Mavis McGuire wore a Victorian dress of Mary blue.
Miss Ethel Treneman was in a pretty rose pink taffetas frock.
Miss Gladvs White wAs in a dainty dress of green crepe-de-chine. Miss R. Collinge was attractively frocker! in blue velvet, with silver trimming.
Miss Lorna Bickley was in peacock blue, with touches of silver.
Miss Jean Kirkham wore a pretty frock of apricot crepe-de-chine.
Miss Nola Robertson was in mauve satin, daintily made. Miss J. Harrison wore a dainty beaded georgette. Miss Connie King looked effective in heliotrope satin. Miss Mabel Robson wore peacock blue, with silver trimming. Miss Lucy White wore a pretty blue crepe-de-chine. Miss Sybil Budd was well suited in red georgette. Miss Molly Budd wore black velvet relieved with white. Miss B- Field was in black velvet Miss L. Field wore a pretty figured ninon.
Miss R. McHugh’s frock was of a brightly spangled pink. Miss V. Gosling wore a sweet dress of Nile green, and silver trimming.
Miss Jean Harrison was in a rose spangled dress. Miss Inez Garnett was in a prettyshade of rose.
Miss Elsie Morton’s frock was blue crepe-de-chine. Also present were Messrs. Sheriff, Honeybun, N. Roach, J. Banks, C. Crichton, J. Foote, E. McQuillan, E- Garnett. G. Field, 8. Armstrong, D. McCarthy, R. Gilbertson, V. Treneman, W. Irvin, C. Robertson. B. King, E. Kirkham, D. Christie, P. Wake, and many others.
