BOXING.

CASEY BEATS HEEHEY LOSER LACKING IN DECISION. New Plymouth, July 10. Harry Casey New Zealand middle-weight champion, defeated the ex-middleweight champion, J. Heeney, on points in a 15-rounds professional bout at New Plymouth last night. The men were evenly matched, but Casey was more aggressive and more enterprising, and nearly all through held a slight advantage. There was a considerable amount of in-fighting of a clever nature, but never once did the men appear to be wholly extended. In the last two rounds Heeney seemed gripped by indecision and appeared wholly unable to recover the ground in the earlier rounds. In the amateur bouts N. Robuck (Taranaki fly-weight champion), defeated S. Gray (Manawatu champion) ; T. Donovan (Taranaki featherweight champion), defeated W. Gray (Manawatu light-weight champion); and W. Stevens (Taranaki middleweight champion) knocked out B. Mends (Wanganui). WINS FOR WILLIAMS AND ROBERTS. Sydney, July 10. At the Stadium Merv Williams defeated Mike O’Connor on points m fifteen rounds. O’Connor was bodily punished, but made a plucky showing. At Newcastle Jack Roberts knocked out George Stace in the tenth round of a contest for the State lightweight championship.
