MAORI ARTS AND CRAFTS.
ANNUAL MEETING OF BOARD QUESTION OF SCHOOL SITE. Wellington, July 9. The annual meeting of the Maori Arts and Crafts Board was opened by the Hon. R. F. bollard, who said that while Rotorua had investigated the question of a site for the Maori" Arts and Crafts School, it might be possible to acquire control of the Model Pa at Uheka and make rt « show place for the board. The upkeep and decoration of such a pa wqyld be ideal work for a School of Art students. If necessary, weaving and textile arts could be taught at Ohinemutu.
Regarding finances, he said the board must economise in these hard times. Unfortunately, they had started in lean years but that would not prevent a good foundation The board resolved to inquire about renting a building at Rotorua in which to start a school at an early date, also to approach the Tourist Department for ten acres to the north-east of the 7 bawmou'o as a marae for public receptions. The question of appointing an instructor was referred to a committee. The board accepted Mr. Bollard's gift of £25. to provide £5 for five years for a student in the arts school.
