The Duke and Duchess of York’s tour of Australia ends to-day, when they board the Henown at Fremantle and sail for home. The last official function will be a visit to the repatriation wards of the hospitals.

Mr. and Mrs A. E. Horne, of the Masonic Hotel, Napier, have returned home after an enjoyable tour of the North Island.

Miss Whitelaw, who has been staying with friends in Hastings, returned to her home in Wellington by this morning’s mail train.

Mrs Castle, who has been on a visit with her parent: Bev Keith Ewen, at Hastings, left on her return to Wellington this morning.

The engagement is announced of Mildred Lucy, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. McDonald, Voukawa, to Kobin, oldest son of Mr and Mrs H. McMurray, of Foxton.

A Sydney cable reports the death of the Hevd. Thomas Davies, a noted Methodist minister. He arrived in New Zealand from England in 1879 and later went to Australia. The Congregational Union of Australia and New Zealand elected the Bev J. E. James president for the ensuing year, states an Adelaide cable.

Mr and Mrs A. Tomlinson, accompanied by their daughter, Melba, left Hastings by this morning’s mail train on a holiday trip to Auckland and Rotorua.

Mr Andrews, is resigning the Assistant Secretaryship of the United States Treasury, in charge of prohibition entorecement and will be succeeded by Mr Seymour Lowman, former Lieutenant-Governor of New York State.

Mr, F. W, Furkert, Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, visits Gisborne this week to inspect the harbour works and advise the board on future operations.— (Press Association.)

A Wellington message announces the death on Saturday ot Mr. Henry 0 Chllaghan, aged 88. formerly a farmer of the Hutt Valley and Aucknd. Later Mr. O'L'allaghan was Bills Clerk in Parliament. He was a well-known angler and goiter.

Miss M. McDonald, of the teaching staff of the Havelock North School, and Miss B. J. Bollard, a teacher at Mahora School, arrived back in Hastings on Saturday evening from Wellington after attending a re-union of teachers at the Training College.

Dr. D. L. Freeman, Government Agricultural Expert, has returned to Hastings after visiting Wairoa and Poverty Bay. While in these districts Dr. Freeman addressed the annual meetings of the Wairoa and Poverty Bay Provincial branches of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.

Death has removed from our midst a very old and much esteemed resident of Hawke’s Bay, in the person of Mr John Kelly, who was a resident of the district for about 45 years. The deceased, who was 85 years of age, passed away yesterday at his residence, Davis street, Hastings, after a comparatively short illness. The funeral will leave the Catholic Church to-morrow morning at 10 o ’clock, for the Hastings cemetery. General sympathy is expressed with his widow and family in their bereavement.
