WAIPUKURAU

NEWS AND NOTES, (Own Correspondent.) The latest advice received by Mr. H. F. Brittain from Gisborne, where his younger daughter, Paulino, is undergoing treatment for a serious ailment is that a slight improvement has taken place. Mrs. Brittain is remaining in Gisborne until the little sufferer is in a fit condition to return home. The death has occurred at the Waipukurau Hospital of Mr. Vai. Archer, at the age of 45 years. The weather was unpropitious for the advent of Christmas Eve, but this circumstance—quite a favourable one as applied to pastures and gardens—did not greatly dampen the ardour of festive shoppers or prevent the arrival of Father Christmas in the hopes of all the people. A quiet wedding was solemnised in St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday ’ast, when Keith, the second son of Mr. James Donald, was united to Miss Dora Kennedy, whose mother resides in Edinburgh, Scotland. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. Canon Rice. The bride wore an exquisite frock of accordeau-pleated georgette, and instead of tho orthodox veil, she wore a dainty cap of georgette and lace, which matched the frock, the lace being clasped with real Scotch heather. She carried a handsome bouquet of roses, sweet peas and asparagus fern. The bride was given away by Mrs. Donald, mother of the bridegroom. The bride was attended by Miss Eva Brown, also of Edinburgh, who is on a visit to New Zealand. She wore a pretty frock of putty-colour-ed China silk, with hat to tone, and caiTied a handsome bouquet. Mr, Maurice Donald, brother of the bridegroom, carried out the duties of best man. After the ceremony the young couple left by ear for the south, the bride travelling in a saxeblue ensemble suit, with hat to tone.
