Cycle Road Race
GOULBURN TO SYDNEY. VICTORIAN'S SECOND SUCCESS. Sydney, Sept. 19. In the Goulburn-to-Sydney cycle road race of 129 miles (but increased to 135 miles owing io roads being under repair), the going over the first fifty miles was very bad. but afterwards was excellent. Seventy started in the amateur, and fifty-nine. in. eluding the New Zealander, Nicholson, in the League of Wheelman
R. W. Lamb, scratch 'Victorian) for the second year in succession secured first and fastest time in the amateur event. He covered the distance in seven hours 13 minutes. W. Buckland (New South AVales), with fifteen minutes start, was second, 7.28.1 : E. Jones (New South Wales), seven minutes start, 7.25.-T5. A protest, entered by Buckland on the ground that Lamb had changed machines during the race with another competitor, will be decided on Wednesday. The league race resultedK. A. Munro. 4(> minutes start, 7 hours minutes; Ken Bass, scratch, / .13.45 ; H. Williamson, 23 minutes start, 7.36.47. All the placed men belong to New South Wales. Ross made the fastest time in the League ol W heelman s race. In connection with the protest against Lamb, he had a puncture near Mittngong and immediately mounted another rider’s machine. The rules of the race provide that a rider must ride the same mnchino throughout, hut an official ol the Cyclists’ Union informed the scratch men that they could change in the event of accident. As the Cyclists Union controlled the race a curious position has arisen, which the executive will have to settig.
