HAWKES BAY POWER BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the above was held in Napier to-day. Present: Messrs J. B. Andrew (chairman), B. W. Waterhouse, VV. Harvey. H. Hill. M. 8. Chambers, D. Kettle. The Hastings Borough Council wrote asking that a committee of the board meet a committee of the council to discuss the question of the bulk supply—The chairman, Messrs Chambers and Waterhouse were appointed to confer with a committee from the Hastings Borough Council. The Hastings Borough Council wrote asking at what point on the borough boundary the board was prepared to give supply. The secretary reported that in the event of bulk supply being agreed upon power would be supplied at any point along the Pakowhai road.—The letter was received and the secretary's action was endorsed. 'i’he Forestry Department wrote in connection with a proposed treeplanting. stating that an officer of the Department, would come to Napier to advise as to details and to the cost of establishment of a scheme. The secretary replied that owing to the lateness of the season the board did not intend undertaking any forestry work this season but would be pleased to confer with the Department’s officer at a suitable date.— deceived and secretary’s action endorsed. The Central Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board wrote regarding the proposed alteration in the northern boundary of their district.—lt was decided to point out that before alterations are made that the statutory regulations in regard to the sanction of the ratepayers interested being first obtained must be observed. A further letter was received from the Hastings Borough Council asking the board to come to an agreement with reference to supply to consumers on Boundary road.

The chairman said that supply would probably be available shortly but considered that each case should be treated on its merits.—This course was agreed to, TENDERS ACCEPTED. The following tenders for materia] were accepted:— 3300 V fuses: Messrs Turnbull and Jones. House service meters: A. D. Riley and Co. Bates poles: Messrs 8. Brown Ltd. K.P.F. switches: Messrs Carrick Wedderspoon. Kelman oil switch: Messrs Carrick Wedderspoon. Earth guards: Messrs Booth Macdonald. Earth pipes: Vulcan Foundry. Whakatu and Paki Paki substation : Steel Construction Co The engineers, Messrs Vickerman and Lancaster, reported as follows :— Delivery of Material.—The first shipment of 893 1.8. poles have arrived and the majority have been transported to the peg sites. We have been advised that the second shi])ment of 900 poles is cuie in about a week’s time. The first shipment of cross arm timber has arrived and is being cut and bored at Messrs R. Holt and Sons. We have been advised that the first shipment of 25 transformers will arrive on the Opawa and we have made arrangements to have this material placed in the hoard’s new store in Dickens street. We have also been advised that the first order of switches, insulators and bolts is due within a few days’ time.

Progress Construction.—All the steel towers that have been delivered have been erected along the main line from the Government sub-station for supplying Whakatu, Clive, Greenmeadows, Awatoto, etc. This includes the two* large towers at the river crossing near Taradale bridge. We have been advised that the. balance of the steel towers will arrive about Hie middle of September. The 1010 erection contractor has made a start and has erected about 70 poles in the Pakowhai area. His work is satisfactory and he will speed up the construction as soon as more material arrives. J. Ashby, contractor, has made a start on the erection of the pile trestles for the river crossing at the end of Powdrell’s road. SECRETARY’S REPORT The secretary (Mr. H. H. Wyllie) reported to the board as follows:— Taradale Town Board reticulation; Your committee will meet the Taradale Town Board on Thursday evening next and the question of purchasing this reticulation will be discussed and a report made to the board. Guaranteed lines: A start has been made in the matter of canvassing the guaranteed areas. A meeting of settlers was held at Mr. Harding’s ‘•’Raukawa/’ at which the canvasser and secretary attended and no difficulty was experienced in obtaining the required guarantee. On Monday evening, 9th inst., a meeting of settlers of Haumoana and Te Awanga settlers will be held, and if possible the required guarantee obtained. The canvasser submitted the following report on the work of canvassing and block-wiring:—The month’s canvass has been very satisfactory, being confined to the area west of Hastings and Twyloi’d. During the coming month the canvass of the black area should be coinplete and a commencement made on the guaranteed basis. Block wiring: Block 1 wired by 1. H. Bostdft' is completed. Blocks 2, 3 and 4 H. McGregor should be completed during the month and good progress has been made. Blocks 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 were allotted to A. Allen, late of Johnsonville, and that contractor is now permanently established in Hastings. He has commenced wiring in Block 9 and good progress is being made.
