WAIPUKURAU NOTES.

(Own Correspondent-) Mr and Mrs S. F. Brandon returned on Wednesday night after a four months’ trip to Australia and the East. During their several months’ sojourn abroad they visited Northern Australia, New Guinea (Port Moresby) and Java. A visit to the Waipukurau Orphans’ Club is to be paid by the representatives of the Hastings fellow organisation on the 22nd inst.. when the Sanatorium will also be visited.

The Orphans’ Club has arranged to pay a visit to the Sanatorium or, Wednesday, 15tb inst., when the patients will be regaled with a concert programme. The proposed Dannevirke trip has been postponed. The Hospital Ball, to be held on Thursday next, promises to be a highly successful function ,and is likely to attract a record attendance. Matron C. I. Drummond (Waipukurau( and Mrs A. H. Murdoch (Waipawa) are the joint hon. secretaries. A well attended meeting of the Wai pukurau Oddfellows (N.Z-) Lodge was held on Thursday night, Bro. W. Chapel, N.G., presiding. A cand'idafej •for membership was initiated into the Order. Secretary Bro. F. Sayliss, I'.G., was the recipient of a gold service! medal.

A party, consisting of 24 members of the Orphans’ Club, including the minstrel troupe anil orchestra, entertained upwards of fifty patients and nurses at the hospital on Thursday night, receiving an especially cordial reception. The visitors weie hospit ably entertained at supper, and Mat ron Drummond recorded thanks as to the excellent programme presented. Chief Orphan Ward voiced appreciation of the sentiments, verbally as well as tangibly expressed.

Mrs Mercer, the popular Danncviike vocalist, and a party of friends, visited the Pukeora Sanatorium on Wednesday night, and entertained the patients. This was one of Mrs Mercer ’s regular periodic acts of thought fulness ,as applied to the Sanatorium. A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. The following report was submitted at the recent annual meeting of the A. and P. Association. The committee has much pleasure in submitting herewith the annual report- The sixteenth annual show was held on the 22nd January, which was a public holiday. Bad weather conditions on the morning of the show seriously affected the attendance. The profit on this year’s show was £37 17s Bd. The exhibits, generally were of a very high standard, and were commented on by the respective judges as being a" credit to the district, notwithstanding a very unfavourable show season, for stock. Entries.—The total number of entries were 1060, as against 1069 for

’ Membership.—The present membership is 247. Wo regret to have to record the death of Mr R. Dougall and Mr R. Parker, both keen supporters of the A. and P. Associations for the year- There is a credit balance of £l2B Os 6d in the Bank of New Zealand. We have procured canvas coverings for the pig pens and dairy and cattle pens, at a cost of £l7 17s lid. Our thanks are due to the officials, stewards, judges, competitors and par ticularly to those who so generously made donations to the prize fund, and also to the Press for its unfailing assistance.
