OTANE.
(Own Correspondent.) The annual event in the school children’s lives, the fancy dress carnival, took place in the Town Hall on Thursday night and was a greater success than ever. Nearly two hundred children iu fancy dress took part. The small children, as well as the seniors, had been trained in the various dances and the hall presented a very charming picture when all the dancers were on the floor. The headmaster, Mr. Mcßae, was well assisted by the staff and both parents nnd children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Music for the dancing was provided by Miss O’Reilly and a sit-down supper was laid for the children, all the parents contributing. On Saturday last the Elsthorpe School Girls’ came into Otane to play a basket ball match against the locm girls. Otane was too experienced for their opponents and won by 34 goals to 4. The visitors wore entertained by the local girls at afternoon tea. and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. .
