The Auckland Hospital inquiry concluded to-day. The Commies sioner’s report will be forwarded td the Governor-General. A Press Association telegram from Auckland states that touching on the death of Walter Cramp Hodgsonat the hospital this morning, n stated in evidence at the inquest that he had broken his hip in a fall on August 9th., and had suffered for years from a gastric ulcer. Th* inquiry was adjourned for furthe# evidence. Th unusual position of a magi*, trate dismissing a drunkenness charge occurred yesterday in a case where the defendant alleged the constable assaulted him. Mr. J. R. Bartholomew, 8.M., at Dunedin, com. mented on the fact that five police witnesses swore the defendant wu drunk, while an equal number of witnesses for the defence swore he was sober, and the evidence for the defence was given by some very reliable and reputable witnesses. Some of the police evidence, he said, was very unsatisfactory anil he could not have the confidence in tbe police evidence that he should expect to have. —(Press Association.) What!
