BASKETBALL.

Quite a most enjoyable afternoon was spent one day last week, when the pupils and staff assembled on the Hastings grounds to witness a basket ball match between the A and B teams of the Hastingj and Napier High Schools. The games were strenuous, both teams playing exceedingly well. Napier scored the first two goals, but it was not long before Hastings was leading by more than half the number of points. Misses Melrose. Burne, and Kirkham of the Hastings A team played splendidly, and are to he complimented on their work. No less credit is due to the other members of the team. Hastings A won the day, the final result being 28 points to 15. Although the scoring in the B match was less, the game wns quite as strenuous. Napier won by 11 goals to 4. Misses 'fully, Simpson and Cumming scored for the visiting team.

The players were entertained to a dainty afternoon tea ny the Hastings girls, while the visitors showed a keen interest in the new school. Much credit is due to the roaches of the respective teams for the careful instruction they have given. Misses Grav and Stone ware most efficient referees.
