BRIDGE PA MAORI FILES. In the bankrupt estate of Niwhai Karipa, Native, of Bridge Pa, Hastings. the debts total £l7O 1/- and the assets nil. Bankrupt said in a personal statement that he was a labourer with a wife but no children, and had not for some time past been in permanent employment. He did shearing during the season, but for the last twelve months had earned no more than £6. For some considerable time bankrupt had run an account with Mr. Johnson, tlio largest of the creditors, there being an arrangement that bankrupt and his wife were to obtain credit for such goods as were required, Mr. Johnson to take sufficient of the shearing cheque to reimburse himself. The account had not been paid off. About two years ago his wife became ill and an operation was necessary. During her illness Karipa was forced to borrow money in order to hire conveyances to visit her and had been unable to pay much off the debts incurred. 'l'he house which he occupied belonged to nrs wife, as did the furniture.

The-unsecured creditors are as follow:—Hastings: M. Johnson £Bl 14/3, T. Hannon £lB 17/-. Graham and Gebbie £24 12/9, W. Lynch £7 1/- J. Dagg £7, C. Cumming £3 10/8. J. Dunn £2 10/-. A. D. Ross £1 7/2, all of Hastings, and Mrs H. Roach (Maraekakaho) £23 9/1, a total of £l7O 1/.-. WAIPUKURAU GROCER. DEFICIENCY OF £392. The deficiency in tlio estate of James Byford, grocer, of Waipukurau, who recently filed a petition in bankruptcy, is set down as £392 11/7, the total assets being £1440 3/-, and the debts to unsecured creditors £1832 11/7. Debts to secured creditors total £l2ll 5/-, and the securities are valued at £2125. The assets are made up of book debts £4OO, cash in hand £6 8/-, furniture £l5O, surplus from securities in the hands ot secured creditors £BB3 15/-.

In a personal statement bankrupt said that he commenced business in Waipukurau in 1919 on capital provided by a guaranteed bank overdraft. Bankrupt was compelled to purchase the business shortly after commencing and this used most of the capital. Good progress was made for a considerable time, but later, owing to some large amounts which proved bad, the capital was further diminished. This factor, together with increased opposition in business and inability to get accounts in more promptly, contributed to the failure. The secured creditors are the Loyal Tavistock l/idge, Waipukurau, who have a debit of £516 secured in £1000; E. A. J. Elliot, who is secured in £875 for £475. and E. Kyle, who is secured for £250 on a debt of £250.
